| What’s the difference between a retained and a contingent search? |
Contingent searches are typically meant for hiring needs that are less time sensitive and not typically conducted exclusively by one firm. Remuneration is made when the firm’s candidate is hired.
With a retained search, the client engages one recruiting firm to conduct the search on an exclusive basis. Typically, qualified candidates are targeted, located and presented to the client within a specified time period, usually one to three months, and the firm is paid throughout the search process. |
| Retained search often applies to senior executives, while contingent searches are used most often to fill middle- or junior-level positions. |

| |
| I have a long track record, do I still need a resume? |
| In nearly all cases, a formal resume will be needed at some point during the interview process, regardless of the level of experience. Exemplar has the resources and experience to assist certain candidates in creating such documents. |
| |
| What’s the typical interview like? |
There is no ‘typical’ search, as many firms maintain their own methods, but there are common aspects.
With the more prestigious firms, the process can involve several phone interviews, as well as multiple day-long interviews with people who will dissect every aspect of your resume. With technical roles, tests are given by some firms to gauge your ability to write software code, mathematical ability and other aptitudes. Other firms require information that includes college GPAs and scholastic test scores.
Exemplar provides training and materials to assist candidates in the rigors of the interview process. |
| |
| How do I prepare for an interview? |
No matter what level, a little preparation goes a long way. Exemplar works with both our clients and candidates throughout the interview process. Preparation is tailored to suit to each individual search.
Exemplar strongly encourages all candidates to actively prepare for their interviews, and we can assist candidates in the process with proprietary preparatory materials and training. |
| |
| Will I be reimbursed for travel-related or other expenses? |
| Typically, it is the client, or hiring company, that reimburses candidates for expenses. In some cases, Exemplar will facilitate this process but does not and will not reimburse candidates for any expenses incurred related to a given search. |
